  • The Spring Flyfishing Show -> Flytyer profile - Keith Wallington.

Keith Wallington - Click on fly images for a closer look !

Please write a short profile about yourself - Keith has been casting and tying flies since his childhood and has developed a deep understanding and love for his home water, the Vaal River, over the past 20 seasons. He is fascinated with constructing flies that fish take convincingly as the real thing, believing most fly patterns can be positioned on a continuum from attractor on one end to imitator on the other. He ties and fishes flies across the continuum appreciating endless possibilities to get closer to understanding what makes those fish tick.

  • My favourite fly fishing pattern. - Probably the range of quick to tie realistic mayfly nymphs I am currently developing...it's all in the gills!

What other patterns and styles of flyfishing do you enjoy most. -Soft hackles/spiders, traditional wets, pretty much all patterns except the "bling" patterns such as stillwater lures.

Is there a style of flytying you enjoy more than others! -Fishable realistics.

What is your most memorable flyfishing moment? - My first Zambezi Yellowfish in October 2005, wading amongst crocs and hippos.

What is your most favoured piece of flyfishing equipment? -Grey's 10ft 4 wt Streamflex.

What type of flyfishing rod and reel do you use? - Various, try to play with marginal brands who are pushing the edge, sometimes the big brands innovate too (e.g. my streamflex rod).

What type of flytying will you be tying at the show and are there any specific tying techniques you will be demonstrating at the show. -Fishable realistics is my current focus and personal challenge, I will also tie a few spiders adapted to South African rivers, some emergers and dries I've been working on, and of course my realistic art flies.

What is your favourite piece of flytying equipment? - Lawrence Waldron vice

Many thanks Keith and we look forward to seeing you at the show.
