  • The Spring Flyfishing Show -> Flytyer profile - Johan Klingberg.

Johan Klingberg - Click on fly images for a closer look !

Please write a short profile about yourself - I am a 35 year old school teacher and teach maths and science. My home waters are mainly fast trout rivers, and I have great passion for techniques, fly design to match different situations. I am also very interested in fly fishing history, European as well as American.

  • My favourite fly fishing pattern. - I am great fan of soft hackled flies, like Spiders, Flymphs and CDC dry flies.

What other patterns and styles of flyfishing do you enjoy most. - I do 99 percent river fishing for trout, but I like our rare trips to the Danish Bornholm and the Swedish west coast fishing for sea trout. So I guess streamers and bucktails are important patterns as well. Because of this I am also very interested in classic fly tying like full dressed salmon flies and the beautiful " New England streamer style" you know the Carrie Stevens flies.

Is there a style of flytying you enjoy more than others! - Hmmm, I like to design patterns, and use them to fish correctly in all conditions, on rivers and stillwater. I like to make fishing flies that behave as I expect them to do, just to make Mr Trout happy.

What is your most memorable flyfishing moment? - I am a trout fisherman but the Pike I caught when fishing for trout in my small river at home is different. She took a small hares ear nymph on an upstream cast, free drift presentation with a four line and a 0,16 leader tip. After a long, intensive and great fight I landed her about 300 meters down stream. She was 126 cm long, and I released her back to the river.

What is your most favoured piece of flyfishing equipment? - It must be a long hackled, Olive Flymph with a goldish tag.

What type of flyfishing rod and reel do you use? - Any rod I can put a bend in and a reel that screams when the fish runs. I also like my cane rods.

What type of flytying will you be tying at the show and are there any specific tying techniques you will be demonstrating at the show. - I will mainly tie soft hackles, like Flymphs and CDC patterns. I have just finished a DVD with CDC techniques. I will show some techniques from that film at the show, and of course a couple of skating flies I consider as magic dry flies on fast water.

What is your favourite piece of flytying equipment? - My beautiful toolbox handmade in wood. It always makes me happy when I open it.

Many thanks Johan and we look forward to seeing you at the show.

Johan is also doing a flytying class at the show. Click [here] to find out more and book your place.
