Sarah Briston - I Love the Spring Fly show - Its the kick-start to my year, There’s always a great range of Flytyers not to mention I was born in here in Newark. So this fly fair is always a bit of a homecoming too. I was a full time teacher of Art in the Midlands before moving to Speyside in 2004, making a living as an artist and part time teacher of Art. I quickly became hooked on fishing flies, living in the right environment, a Bothy by the Spey. I find fishing flies very intriguing beautiful objects to paint and was soon illustrating classic salmon flies of great tyers from all over the world. For the last two years I have been looking close to home and at a Collection inspired by A E Knox, great classic. Autumns on the Spey” which describes 16 cherished fly patterns from a legendary Ghillie born of Speyside, Geordie Shanks. The book circa 1870 marks a golden age of the Spey. At the Spring show I will be showing  6 new  original illustrations  from the Autumns project and I will be ready to show in contrast beautiful brightly coloured new pieces with two flies, including ‘Spring Fly” from Dave Carne, “Cassard” from Alberto Calzolari. And Dark Devil from David Gourong. The highlight of  my show is the framed 16 plate of flies which inspired the collection, It is a magnificent plate, and thanks to the many great fly tyers who provided me with examples of the flies in  the collection as well as advice encouragement and information, Most importantly for agreeing to have their flies auctioned to a good cause later in the year( Casting For Recovery).
