![]() Classic Salmon flies. Tied Old style by; Jens Pilgaard of Denmark. As a new feature at the show I would like to demonstrate to you, how salmon flies were tied in the beginning of the Victorian fly fishing era and up to around World war II. Come and visit my separate tying table. Sit down and have a chat while I tie as we speak. I will explain the difference between the old style versus the modern tying style, and what it does to the tying result . This will give you a unique chance to see how the original patterns looked and compare them with the illustrations in the old books. I will be tying with original materials used in the past, and talk about substitutes that can be used today and lots of other subjects related to the tying of classic salmon flies. I will also be displaying some of my flies; tied both, with and without a vise for comparison. As a sideshow I will be displaying and selling my hand-forged knife blades in pattern-welded “Damascus” steel which is my other passion. ![]() Hand tied by Jens Pilgaard. See some more of Jens Pilgaard’s famous salmon patterns and one of his knives made with a Mammoth tusk handle in Flytyers of the World, volume 2.
