![]() I am 63 years old, married to Mary and we have 3 grown up children. I have spent most of my working life as a river keeper or otherwise involved in Fly Fishing. I am now a full time Fly tyer, Fishing Instructor and Guide based in Derbyshire. I hold APGAI in Trout, Salmon and Fly Dressing disciplines and am the current Chairman of GAIA. Please write about your favoute fly fishing pattern. My favourite fly pattern is, strangely for somone known for his trout dry flies, my 3P Salmon Shrimp. I devised this probably 15 years ago and it has always served me well whenever I go Salmon fishing. What other patterns and styles of flyfishing do you enjoy most. As a trout river keeper I tend to steer away from this style of fishing, indeed for many years I hardly ever fished but I always enjoy Salmon fishing, sea trout fishing especially and, recently I have rekindled my lake fishing by going to Ireland to fish the west coast limestone loughs particularly Mask, Carra and this year, Corrib. Is there a style of flytying you enjoy more than others! My favourite style of fly tying is fully dresed salmon flies. I have a very deep hidden artistic streak and it comes out occasionally inthe form of these beautiful flies. What is your most rememberable flyfishing moment. Spending a day with Dave Whitlock when he was over in 1993. He came to look at the way the waters I kept were managed, and why as part of a research project for a water he and his wife Emily were working on back in Arkansas. He was both a true gentleman and a very, very good fisherman. What is your most favoured peice of flyfishing equipment. I have a very open outlook on equipment so generally would not answer this but I do enjoy using a cane rod and silk line, both made by Mike Brookes. I also have a yew priest that I was given in 1983 that some sentimental value. What is your most favoured peice of flytying equipment. Again I do not view my tools in this way. What type of flyfishing rod and reel do you use.Whatever suits the task. Apart from the Mike Brookes rod and line I have no favourites. What type of flytying will you be tying at the show and are there any specific tying techniques you will be demonstrating at the show. I will be concentrating on my river flies as this is what I am 'expected' to be doing but I am hoping to be asked 'HOW TO' by the members of the public as I enjoy the teaching element of my fly tying more than anything else. ![]() ![]() My web site should be active soon at www.peakdistrictflyfishing.com |
