The Hardy Book of the Salmon Fly - Harwood, Keith

Since its foundation in 1873, Hardy has included hundreds of salmon flies in its annual Anglers’ Guides. In this book Keith Harwood has chosen fifty patterns, which are representative of the history of the salmon fly and of Hardy’s association with it. Included in this selection are some of the well-known classics such as the Jock Scott, Durham Ranger and Green Highlander, as well as some of the more recent hair wing patterns such as the Hairy Mary and General Practitioner. Also included are a number of patterns which graced the pages of the Anglers’ Guides, but which are now largely forgotten. Most of the flies illustrated have been tied by the author especially for this book. [To Order this book and find out more about Medlar Press click here]
The Float - Harwood, Keith

Thoroughly researched and a must for all anglers. [To Order this book and find out more about Medlar Press click here]
One for the Road - MacIntosh, Donald

This is not a book about the art of angling. Nor is it a book of the ‘Me and Joe’ genre which infested the book-stalls of my youth. I am not an angler of sufficient competence to be able to write with authority about the former, nor do I have any inclination to attempt the latter sort of book. This is a book about the fun I had with people in remote lands, people who would have been quite unable to tell the difference between a Greenwell’s Glory and a Welshman’s Button, but whose lives often depended on their ability to remove fish from the most unyielding of waters by fair means or foul. Usually foul. [To Order this book and find out more about Medlar Press click here]
Orange Otter - Knowles, Christopher

When Courtney Williams published A Dictionary of Trout Flies in 1949, the Rev. Edward Powell of Munslow, Shropshire had more listings in the index than any other name except Pritt and Ronalds. Christopher Knowles, with the help of sixty years of Powell’s fishing diaries, acquaints us with the man behind the patterns and at the same time reveals a whole era of fishing theory and practice that was in danger of disappearing from view. In so doing, he creates a fascinating, highly readable, portrait of Welsh Border fishing and its main characters.

The House the Hardy Brothers Built - Hardy, Jim

Hardy are without doubt the most famous fishing company in the world and this completely new and revised edition of the book takes the reader behind the scenes of the tackle industry and gives an insight into the company's origins and development during a period of more than one hundred years. Written by James Hardy, the book is a unique document of a unique company, as well as paying respect to some of the leading characters who kept its wheels oiled and turning for over a century. Chalkstream - Rangeley-Wilson, Charles.

For centuries chalkstreams have inspired infatuation. All the qualities of a spring-fed river – constant, equable, cool, fertile – are magnified in a chalkstream. A sickle-shape of chalk downland that runs from Normandy to Yorkshire, gives birth to over a hundred of the most perfect rivers for large and fussy trout. Chalkstream is an anthology of writing that celebrates these rivers, their geology, their history, their trout and their fly fishing. From Ruskin and Coleridge to Plunkett-Greene and Haig-Brown; from the stately Test, to the dapperling Piddle; streams that flow through unspoilt countryside, streams that flow through pipes, watermeadows to snuff mills: chalkstreams, the ultimate trout rivers, are unique to England and northern France, and this book praises them all. Air & Water - See-Paynton, Colin

Air & Water came about as a result of a conversation between Colin See-Paynton and Jon Ward-Allen and contains the complete collection of Colin’s fish and fowl engravings from 1984 to 2004. Colin See-Paynton is well known as a distinguished exponent of the art of wood engraving. His work has gained international recognition and is based on meticulous observation of the natural world. His work is entirely individualistic but one can see influences of Thomas Bewick, Charles Tunnicliffe and Agnes Miller Parker. These beautiful engravings are accompanied by angling writing chosen by Keith Harwood. [To Order this book and find out more about Medlar Press click here]
