We are proud to announce that Varivas are now the official show sponsor for the British & International Flytying Championships and our International Flytying Rows.
The 2008 British & International Flytying Championships (BIFC) is a world wide open flytying competition. The BIFC is to open for entries until next February 22nd 2008 and the winners will be announced at the next Spring Flyfishing Show on Sunday March the 2nd 2008. The competition will be judged by an international panel of flytyers who are recognised as experts from their specialist flytying field. All entries will be displayed at the show and will be shadow mounted onto a special display frame which will be exhibited at future shows.
The overall winner will receive an engraved sculture by world renowned Italian Sculpture Alberto Coppini and a winners certificate. 2nd & 3rd places will receive official certificates. All certificates will be signed by the Judges. All winners from each catagory will receive prizes as listed on our BIFC page.

Entry Categories;
A - Open International.
A - Open British National.
B - 16 & under International.
C - Ladies International open.
NOTES;
1 - Each entry will consist of one fly.
2 - Multiple category entries will be accepted (only one fly per category)
3 - All Entry costs per category £10.00. Under 16's FREE
4 - Closing date for entries is 22nd February 2008
5 - All entries to be received by February 22nd 2008
6 - International and British National are 2 seperate awards within the same category. An entrant may win the International yet the best British entry will win an award as the best in the British National category.

All entries will be displayed over both exhibition days in a special area of the Spring Flyfishing show where all visitors can view the patterns. Winners will be announced on Sunday the 2nd of March 2008
Pattern Categories explained.
Fully Dressed Salmon Flies;
To enter this category you are to enter with The Champion by Kelson as Classic salmon fly on a 4/0 blind eye Hook. Click here for detailed patterns information and Cites list etc.
Open Salmon Class;
Fully dressed salmon fly.Pattern of your own choise or creation. Here the weight will be on innovation, beauty and creativety. In other words, anything goes, as long as it within reasons can be called a fully dressed salmon fly. This means that it should be able to be used for fishing. Besides that, no guidelines folks.
Nymphs and Wet Flies;
To enter this category you are to enter with one of the following; Any nymph pattern that has not developed wings prior to hatching into a Dun. Therefore a fly that has not broken through the surface film. This includes Pupas, larva, and sub-emergers. ( Sub-emergers do not include the Klinkhamer styles. See Dry Fly category for this style). A wet fly will be one of the following; Any classic wet fly pattern such as a Teal and Silver or a Bloody Butcher etc. Still-water Lures such as Montana Nymphs. North Country soft hackle flies without wings such as; Black Spider, Snipe and Purple etc.
Dry Flies and Terrestrials;
To enter this category you are to enter with one of the following; Traditional hackled patterns or an imitation of fully hatched Duns and Spinners. Hatching dry flies like the Klinkhamer style and attractors, bombers and big salmon/steelhead dry flies. And, North Country patterns with wings, such as Greenwells Glory, March Brown, Royal Wolf etc. To enter a teresstrial you can enter with one of the following; Land living beetles, Craneflies, Hawthornes, bees, wasps ect.
Realistic Fishing Flies;
To enter this category you are to enter with one of the following; Any Nymph, Larva, Pupa, Hatching fly, Dry Fly and Spinner. These are not super realistic and must be designed to be used as fishing flies and must resemble the species they are trying to imitate.
Super Realistic;
To enter this category you are to enter with one of the following;
Any Nymph, Larva, Pupa, Hatching fly, Dry Fly, Spinner and terrestrial. These flies are not tied to be fished with but are intended as framed flies for presentation.
Streamers and Saltwater;
To enter this category you are to enter with one of the following; Classic's tied in the Rangley, Welch and Carry Stevens style, or a pattern that imitates freshwater fish, such as Matukas and Muddlers etc. A saltwater fly can be one of the following; Any Saltwater baitfish pattern that is intended for catching saltwater fish, either tied from an established pattern or a new design of your own.
The British & International Flytying Championships (BIFC) Rules and Regulations:
1. The BIFC is open to all fly-tyers, both amateur and professional, of any age. Anyone interested in the art of fly-tying may enter. Members of the jury or the jury's family may not participate.
2. Each participant may enter only one fly in each pattern category. You do not need to participate in all pattern categories.
3. All flies in each pattern category can be tied on any brand of hook. Or blind eye hook for Classic Salmon Category.
4. Flies that are entered in the wrong category, will be disqualified.
5. All correspondence must be in English.
6. Closing Date: 22nd February 2008
